‘Another Place’

January 21, 2015 on Art, Inspiration by Anna Pethen

From Tate Liverpool, we drove along the docks to Crosby Beach to see Antony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’: 100 figures (cast from Gormley’s own body) staring out to sea. A wild January afternoon of rain, wind, sleet and bright sun made them all the more beautiful. They’re a permanent exhibition so will stand until they corrode:

The sculptures are made from 17 body-casts taken from my body (protected by a thin layer of wrapping plastic) between the 19th of May and the 10th of July. The sculptures are all standing in a similar way, with the lungs more or less inflated and their postures carrying different degrees of tension or relaxation.’
